I skinned up Monte Cristo Creek to the bottom of Wheeler Mountain’s Northeast Couloir finding touchy windslabs. I noticed that the couloir had already slid and decided to climb it. When I reached the crown of the slide about halfway up the couloir, I decided to retreat. The maximum slope angle in the couloir is 48 degrees, but averages around 40.
Skied Elevation: ~1500’
Wheeler Mountain from Monte Cristo Creek. Wheeler Mountain is on the left and the Northeast Couloir is hidden behind a rock wall and probably never receives direct sunlight. The couloir in center is another option.
